§ 01Why it matters

Reaching the inbox is engineered, not lucky.

Mailbox providers score your domain before a single subscriber does. These are the signals that decide the spam folder.

Authentication is table stakes

Gmail and Yahoo now require SPF, DKIM, and DMARC before they will even consider bulk mail for the inbox. Miss one and you are filtered before your content ever matters.

Reputation compounds

Every send teaches providers whether to trust you. A clean, fully authenticated domain builds a reputation that keeps future campaigns landing where they should.

Spoofing erodes trust

Without an enforcing DMARC policy, anyone can forge your domain. The resulting spam complaints and phishing reports drag your legitimate mail down with them.

A low score means inbox trouble.

Bitelio handles SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, warms up your domain, and watches your sending reputation around the clock — so your mail lands. Free to start, no credit card required.

Frequently asked questions

What is a deliverability score?

It is a single 0–100 rating of how well your domain is set up to reach the inbox, combining four DNS-level signals — your MX records, SPF, DMARC, and DKIM. Instead of checking each one separately, the score rolls them into one number and maps it to a letter grade so you can see at a glance whether your foundation is solid or leaking placement.

How is the score calculated?

Points are weighted by impact: valid MX records (25), an SPF record (15) with a strict all-qualifier (10), a DMARC record (20) plus policy strength (up to 15 for p=reject) and aggregate reporting (5), and a detected DKIM signature (10). The totals sum to 100, which we then map to an A–F grade with a green, amber, or red band.

Why does DKIM sometimes show as not detected?

DKIM selectors are provider-specific and there is no way to enumerate them from DNS alone, so we probe a set of common selectors (google, default, selector1, and so on). If your provider uses a different one, DKIM can be perfectly configured yet still show as not auto-detected — which is why a miss never lowers your score. Use the DKIM checker with your exact selector to confirm.

What score should I aim for?

Aim for 90 or above (an A). That means valid MX, an SPF record ending in -all, a DMARC policy at quarantine or reject with reporting, and a detectable DKIM signature. Anything in the amber range (60–89) will still deliver much of the time but leaves easy placement and anti-spoofing wins on the table.

Does a perfect score guarantee inbox placement?

No — authentication is necessary but not sufficient. A perfect score means the technical foundation is right, but inbox placement also depends on your sending reputation, list hygiene, engagement rates, content, and complaint levels. Think of the score as clearing the entry requirements; reputation and good sending habits carry the rest.
