Email cost
calculator

Contact-based platforms bill you for every profile you store — even the ones you never email. Compare your monthly cost on Klaviyo, Mailchimp, and Bitelio, and see what usage-based pricing actually saves.

§ 01How the math works

Contacts vs. usage.

Two providers can quote wildly different numbers for the same list — because they bill on different things.

Contact-based billing

Mailchimp and Klaviyo price on the number of profiles in your list. Grow the list and the bill climbs — whether or not you email those people this month.

Usage-based billing

Bitelio prices on the emails you actually send. Store a million contacts for free; you only pay when you press send. A big, low-frequency list barely costs anything.

Where it bites hardest

Large lists that you email occasionally are the worst case for contact-based pricing — you carry the cost of every stored profile all month for a handful of campaigns.

Free tiers differ too

Free plans are capped by contacts elsewhere (500 on Mailchimp, 250 on Klaviyo). Bitelio's free plan caps sends at 1,000/month and keeps contacts unlimited.

Overage, not step-ups

Contact tiers jump in big steps as your list crosses thresholds. Bitelio adds volume smoothly at $1.20 per 1,000 emails above your plan — no cliff-edge upgrades.

Same features everywhere

On Bitelio every plan includes automations, campaigns, transactional, segments, and analytics. Upgrading buys capacity, not unlocked features.

Stop paying per contact.

Bitelio prices on what you send — unlimited contacts on every plan, including free. Start with 1,000 emails a month, no card required.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this calculator?

It gives a close ballpark, not an exact quote. The Mailchimp and Klaviyo figures are stepped approximations of their public list-based pricing as of 2026, interpolated between published tiers. The Bitelio figure follows our real usage-based plans (Free up to 1,000 sends, Pro at $19, Scale at $99, plus $1.20 per 1,000 emails of overage). Always confirm current pricing on each provider's own site before deciding.

Why does Bitelio ask for sends instead of contacts?

Because Bitelio bills on the emails you send, not the contacts you store. Your list can be any size at no extra cost. Klaviyo and Mailchimp bill the opposite way — on stored profiles — which is why the calculator takes both numbers and shows them side by side.

Why is Bitelio usually cheaper?

Most lists are larger than the number of people emailed in any given month. Contact-based pricing charges you for the whole list every month; usage-based pricing charges only for what you send. The bigger and less frequently mailed your list, the wider that gap gets.

Does a bigger contact list cost more on Bitelio?

No. Contacts are unlimited on every Bitelio plan, including the free tier. Your bill only moves when your monthly send volume changes — storing more contacts never costs a cent.

What if I send a lot to a small list?

Then contact-based pricing can win, and the calculator will show it honestly. Usage-based pricing favors large lists mailed at normal frequency; high send volume against a tiny list is the case where per-contact plans can come out cheaper. Enter your real numbers and compare.
